Get the Oscars look

The Oscars 2012 were not only a triumph for The Artist (congrats!) but for the dresses too. From peplums to polka dots, lace to laser cut, this year’s style certainly didn’t disappoint. And you can get the look of some of the most awe-inspiring dresses right here; take your inspiration from these leading ladies.

Gwyneth P

Gwyneth’s Tom Ford caped gown has a minimalist, simple quality to it which is accentuated by an unexpected cape. Choose this simple dove grey Alexander McQueen mini for an edgier version.

Rose Byrne
A bejewelled, sequin dress never goes out of fashion and Rose Byrne‘s Vivienne Westwood  is updated with barely-there accessories. Apply the same ethos to our Marchesa Notte evening gown – less is more.

Emma Stone

It’s all about the neckline and bright shade of Emma Stone’s Giambattista Valli dress – we love! For a similar look, simply create your own extra-volume neckline on this Halston Silk Column dress by tying a piece of fabric in the same shade in a loose, looped bow around your neck. Think of it as a glammed up neck scarf!

Stacey K
Push this Dina Bar El off the shoulder a la Stacey Kiebler‘s Marchesa gown to show off this year’s sexiest body part – the shoulders.

K Wiig

Kristen Wiig plays down her tiered J Mendel gown with loose, beach waves but the key to this look is to complement your dress to your skin tone – hers is the perfect shade of caramel. Ooze the same sex appeal in this nude Zimmerman maxi.

Meryl Streep
We like to think Meryl Streep was sending subliminal messages by dressing as the Oscar statue! Lanvin‘s gold lame wrap dress may err on the tacky side for some, but by shortening both the length and the sleeves, Halston’s version veers into stunning territory.

LFW in dresses: The parties

Kate Moss

Kate Moss brings the rock and the roll to Stella McCartney‘s LFW bash in a black and nude tonal body-con mini.

Rihanna
Rihanna, we die. Low cut, high split – it shouldn’t work, but it does. Classic, simple gold accessories add a touch of class and accentuate her honeyed skintone.

Lana Del Rey
The girl OTM with the bag OTM – Lana Del Rey accessories her bag namesake with peekaboo, lace and velvet.

Alexa Chung at Stella McCartney
Only Alexa Chung could pull off what is essentially a glorified sack, albeit with better stitching. A lesson in the understated.

Elizabeth Olsen
Forget her famous sisters, Elizabeth Olsen is fast becoming the Olsen to watch. Her Art-Deco inspired LBD is the perfect introduction to the twenties trend.

London Fashion Week AW12: Christopher Kane

Fashion’s favourite young designer, Christopher Kane, pulled out all the stops for his AW12 collection. For the dresses, Kane has taken a futuristic spin on sportswear, with a bit of Park Avenue elegance thrown in for good measure. The jewel colours were vibrant without being vulgar, while the designs were seductive without being overtly sexy, resulting in a confident and powerful woman who is guaranteed to turn heads next season.

London Fashion Week AW12: Osman

The team at Girl Meets Dress have their fingers crossed that this anything-but-dull LBD shows up on the red carpet this awards season. We can see Angelina Jolie rocking this look. Who would you like to see wearing this Osman dress?
