GMD’s Dress Code Guide

Fashion Week – Make a Statement!

Lucky enough to be heading off to London fashion week this month?  Then why not look at renting one of our designer handbags that will add some glam to any outfit!

It’s not always easy piecing together that perfect fashion combo that’s supposed to say ‘I’m innately fashionable and forward thinking’ when you’re attending an event with supermodels and designers galore.  Nevertheless, whatever you decide, team it with one of our statement designer handbags and you can’t go wrong!

Why not try our Blank London Pupa Chain pouch bag!

Elegant and chic, this unique pouch can be worn over the shoulder for a dressy look or across the body to play it down.  With its diamante embellishment you will be sure to steal some limelight with minimal effort.

Or how about our Wilbur and Gussie Harriet clutch in cobalt blue?  The crocodile-effect patent leather, accented with gold hardware, will add a touch of vintage glamour to any look.

Finally, another fave is our Halston 70’s Envelope clutch in a dazzling yellow.  With its bright plexi-closure detailing and in a very practical size, this bag will take you from day to night with ease.  Team it with some black threads and killer heels and this ultra contemporary clutch will do all the talking!

Long dresses for those special formal work dos

Deciding what to wear to any event can increase the blood pressure of even the most laid back of us, so it’s not surprising that when it comes to a work do our minds are flooded with endless questions and concerns.  Should my hair be up or down?  What colour should I go for? Is it too low cut?  Too conservative?  What shoes should I wear? …and the list goes on.

When it comes to socialising with our bosses and fellow colleagues it often seems that pressure to look the part outside of the office with a fear of standing out for all of the wrong reasons prohibits us from making these decisions confidently.  However, we have created some basic rules to help make all of this slightly less stressful and a fool-proof way to do it…

If your event is black tie (such as a silver anniversary) it is safest to go with a long dress.  Choose a silhouette you would feel most comfortable in and a favourite colour that is also suited to your skin tone.  If you’ve never worn a bright yellow dress-this is perhaps not the best time to try it out!  However, go with a long dress that has a specific feature you love!  Whether it be a floral optic frill as featured on our Marchesa Notte gown

or an asymmetrical shape as featured on our Dina Bar-El Anastasia gown,

make sure you are excited with what you’re wearing as your confidence will shine!  In addition, if the focal point of your long dress is above the bust, wear your hair up to show it off.  Or alternatively, if it is below the bust, as featured on our Ruth Tarvydas Hidden Gem dress with its on trend side slit, wear your hair down to compliment its glamour.

When it comes to deciding what shoes and accessories to complete your dress try to choose complimentary colours that work well with your dress and skin colour without being an exact match to the dress.  For example, jewel tones would be best complimented with neutral coloured shoes such as nude or a light metallic shade to allow the colour of the dress to stand out.  Finally, if your long dress is very ornate try to keep jewellery to a minimum so as not to detract from its detail.  Why not take a look at our collection of ball gowns for hire and see how it works and venture to our jewellery shop page for some more ideas!

A Marc Jacobs Dress for the Races

Dress to Impress- Hire a Marc Jacobs Dress

Whether you’re in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot or not, ensure your dress for the races is a winner (even if your horse isn’t). An outfit for the races needs to look occasion appropriate, whether the dress code demands it or not.  Even if you’re not in the Royal Enclosure you should not be looking to release your inner chav.  Leave the tight-fitting, mini dress numbers firmly on the hanger, and opt for a dress that does you justice at the GGs.  We have hand-picked some pieces from our Marc Jacobs dresses to hire section.

GG-Tastic Marc Jacobs Dresses for the Races!

The impeccable detailing found on each dress is what will put you ahead of the crowd in the fashion stakes – consolation indeed if you’re not doing so well in race stakes!

Wear a piece by one of America’s (if not the world’s) most influential designers and you’ll come to realize why his dresses are a wardrobe staple for countless women the world over.  We love the unrivalled tailoring and painstaking attention paid to structure in each and every one of Mr Jacob’s dress creations.

Marc really knows what women want!  No wonder then, that the designer counts Sofia Coppola, Kate Bosworth and Victoria Beckham amongst his biggest fans.  And judging by dress connoisseur Mrs B’s wardrobe, the lady ought to know a thing or two about structured dresses!  Pair with Oh Nena or Pearl and Ivy fascinators stocked by us, a sprinkling of bling by Blaguette or Bex Rox, and a cute clutch, and you’ll be left with a GG-tastic outfit for the races.
