London Fashion Week – Day 2: PPQ, Jaeger and House of Holland Dresses

Pastels proved popular at the SS12 shows today at London Fashion Week; candy floss shades were seen at PPQ, Jaeger and House of Holland. Thankfully, it’s a look that works for every girl. Brunettes look sophisticated in lilacs and duck egg blue, redheads smoulder in mint green and blondes are radiant in lemons and sugary pinks. What’s more is pastels suit pale, creamy skin tones as well as dark and olive skin. The key to making it work is to ensure the fit and cut suit your body shape – and good foundations (read as shapewear) go a long way to creating a smooth silhouette in potentially unforgiving pastels. All you have to do is buy the foundations and GMD will provide the dresses – it’s a spring trend that can’t go wrong!

London Fashion Week – Day 2: Printed and Floral Dresses

One of the biggest trends for SS12 is printed dresses. You might be thinking that every summer offers a printed dress, but next season is different – imagine any print you can, and you’ll find it somewhere in the collections of London Fashion Week designers. Floral? Ashish has done it with sunflowers and daisies – on the same dress. Stripes or checks? Head to Daks. Even cow prints were seen at House of Holland. How to wear them? For curvy or fuller figures, choose small prints , while larger prints work well on petite or athletic or figures. The thing to love about printed dresses is that they work for any occasion – printed wrap or shirt dresses are perfect for humid days in the office, while a silk printed maxi dress will take you seamlessly from day to night. Daks has done a navy and white stripe halter neck which is just the ticket for a week in the sun.

London Fashion Week – Day 1: Felder Felder and Sass and Bide Dresses

Fetish is a massive trend for AW11 and seems set to stay for SS12, albeit a more subtle take on the tantalising trend. The Felder Felder and Sass & Bide runway shows took place this afternoon and both collections featured summery versions of the bondage harness seen on some AW catwalks last February. To make the most of this trend, buy the harness separate to your dress this season – or better yet, hire something similar from GMD for AW11 and SS12.

I think it’s also worth noting the amazing SS12 printed dresses worn by the Felder twins when they took their bow on the catwalk – this London label is hitting a lot of SS12 trends in one swift move!

London Fashion Week – Day 1: Jean-Pierre Braganza, Emilia Wickstead and Jena.Theo Dresses

Just a few hours in and London Fashion Week is already in full swing! Designers including Jean-Pierre Braganza, Emilia Wickstead and Jena.Theo were among some of the first designers to show their SS12 collections at LFW today and it appears that for Spring/Summer 12 you simply must have (or must rent!) either a Little Black Dress or a Little White Dress.

It seems that Braganza and Wickstead (above) are two designers who continue to produce investment dresses, creating sleek silhouettes in versatile colours, guaranteeing a timeless option that offer longevity and will see you through more than just one season, while Jena.Theo’s plunging neckline brings some seduction to the sensible button detailing.
