Ask Anna: Mother of The Bride

Every week, we receive many emails with interesting questions and concerns from our GMD customers. For this particular post, we decided to round up this week’s most popular questions with personalized answers from our CEO, Anna Bance, in order to make your renting experience a more enjoyable one, and so you don’t find yourself dressless for this summer’s most glamorous occasions.

My beautiful daughter is getting married this September and I am having trouble finding something to wear. I would like to look attractive, but since I have quite large breasts I need to find a style that is flattering and not too revealing. Could you recommend me a dress?

This is a familiar problem and we completely understand your desires to want to look respectful and beautiful, as it will be as much your day as it will be your daughters! A common mistake for the mother of the bride is to dress either too young, or too old, when really there is no option more suited to the occasion than classic, timeless elegance. Keep an open mind however, as now is the time to wear something out of the ordinary.

My first suggestion for you would be this stunning satin dress by Erdem, which balances a youthful, feminine print with a flattering high neck line and long sleeves.

Alternatively, this dress, from our go to designer Diane Von Fustenburg’s, who always has something flattering and chic no matter your size or age. This black and white silk blend dress will take you seamlessly from day-to-night and would look fantastic with a trench coat.

Lastly, for something a little less traditional, how about trying this comfortably long dress in sensational coral red, wonderful for enhancing honey color skin tones. Match this dress with gold or coral jewelery to complete the look.

p.s Remember that we also stock hats to rent for the big day, and if you need help matching your dress to the perfect style we are always on hand to help thegirls@girlmeetsdress.com

What to Wear to a Wedding as a Guest: Designer Wedding Outfits

What to wear to a wedding as a guest. Always a difficult one for us ladies to get right.  Especially given the expected dress code required of a female wedding guest = dress.  Don’t wear a dress, and you’ll be frowned at for being too casual.  Wear the wrong kind of dress, and you’ll be placed in the wrong kind of guest category. (Although, if you’re a person who hates weddings look at it this way: it may mean not have to worry about what to wear to a wedding as a guest every again, as given your dress performance, you’ll no doubt be crossed off all your other friends’ wedding guest lists!)

What to Wear to a Wedding as a Guest; Code of Dress Conduct

But, if you happen to quite like attending the odd nuptial bash or two, then we’ve got news, and designer wedding outfits for you!  The news is that the following wedding guest dresses will enable you to pass the what to wear to a wedding as a guest test with flying colours.  Wedding guest dress issues will confront you no longer!

Sexy But Appropriate Wedding Guest Dress List

When thinking about what to wear to a wedding as a guest, you need to think about the tone of the ‘do’ (there could be a Church involved for instance).  You want to look appropriate but that doesn’t mean your wedding guest dress can’t be sexy too.  This sequinned black silk drop waist Pailette dress by Proenza Schouler, with a hem that falls just below the knee, will ensure just that.  Hire this designer wedding outfit for £219 (it would usually retail at £2,493.)

A fresh floral number from TIBI stands as the perfect wedding guest dress option. This delightful designer wedding outfit, with it’s 3/4 length sleeves and knee length hem is sophisticated, while the cut-out detail at the back adds interest.  What’s more, we just love the Matisse-esque print! Designer wedding outfit for hire: £49.  (RRP: £400).

A what to wear to a wedding as a guest soldier-of-a-dress! Is all we can say.  A fantastic Dries Van Noten beige and black colour block Dione dress, with pleat detailing.  A not too low v-neck at the front is balanced by a seductive slit at the back of the dress, achieving the optimum wedding guest dress balance.  Rent this designer wedding outfit for well below it’s original £515.  Hire: £189.

What to Wear at a Wedding

‘Hmm, what to wear at a wedding?’ you’re thinking, as you glance at the invitation pinned to the fridge, tormenting you each and every time walk past it.  ‘An outfit for a wedding,’ you say to yourself.  ‘Can’t be that hard.’  But as you start to think about it in more detail, the ‘what to wear at a wedding question’ becomes a lot harder to answer. Deciding what to wear to a wedding requires getting the four ‘w’s (that’s who, what, where, and whens of the wedding) exactly right.

A Designer Wedding Outfit? What to Wear at a Wedding – Tailoring it for the Occasion

No matter the ‘who’, (whose wedding you’re attending) in getting what to wear to a wedding right, your outfit needs  to make the right kind of statement – not one of the ‘upstage the bride’ kinds, nor one of the ‘far too casual for a wedding’ kind. An outfit for a wedding needs to give off all the right impressions; it’s as much a symbol of your feelings toward the due-to-be wed couple as anything.  A shabby outfit for a wedding spells indifference, while an outfit for a wedding that is overdone and outshines the bridal gown itself, might spell disaster/embarrassment for multiple parties.

What Do I Wear to a Wedding? What to Wear at any Wedding

Depending on the ‘when’ and the ‘where’ of the big day, you may need to tailor you outfit for a wedding choice accordingly.  A fail-safe option is almost certainly a dress; go for something simple in cut and pattern, that you can dress up or down depending on the scale and tone of the event.  Trousers risk looking a bit too alternative, unless alternative or low-key is the order of the (wedding) day, then they are probably best left to the men.  Meanwhile, skirts can look chic, but getting a hemline and style that is both age appropriate and right for the occasion and time of year can be tricky.

Designer Wedding Outfit Hire

‘ What do you I wear to wedding?’ you ask your work colleague.  ‘A designer wedding outfit?’ they suggest.  ‘Won’t that be expensive?’ you ask.   ‘Not if you go for designer dress hire,’ she refutes.   A designer wedding outfit doesn’t have to be expensive if you go down the route of designer dress hire.   We give you some lovely designer wedding outfit suggestions that will guarantee you look spot on, with an outfit for a wedding that ticks all four wedding  ‘w’s.   Dress up or down, with or without tights depending on the weather- versatility is everything when it comes to your designer wedding outfit!
