Here at GMD HQ, we’ve had a couple of Winter Cocktail Party invitations arrive in the post. They’re not quite Christmas parties, so we’ve chosen some transitional black cocktail dresses to see you through the Winter months, leading up to the Christmas office parties and end of year celebrations. Everyone’s saving up to buy Christmas presents so what better way to save even more money, than by renting little black designer dresses for under £50!
Halston Swing Cocktail Dress – Such a chic dress at such a great price. Made of luxurious silk, we love this black dress with its metallic detail running through the material. The gold ‘H’ on the shoulder is a signature of Halston dresses, it’s even removable but we love it just the way it is. The one shoulder look is right on trend and perfect for those beady fashionista eyes.
Kirsty Doyle Tuxedo Waistcoat Dress – The androgynous look has made a real comeback in recent years. This black dress comes with the option of a waistcoat, really great for outdoor cocktail parties. As it’s made of wool and cashmere, you’re safe in the knowledge that you’ll staying warm on a chilly night. We do say though that if it gets too cold, asking to borrow a handsome suitor’s jacket is highly recommended!
NLY Jules Dress Silver – This dress mixes black sequins and silver sequins for a totally gorgeous, shimmering look. It’s a mini length and backless for that added wow factor. We like to keep accessories simple with some dresses, but with this one, we say go all out! For something a little different, how about piling your hair up high and wearing a necklace, but backwards so that it drops down the bare back; go on, give us a twirl!

Clover Canyon evening dresses have been worn by countless celebrities; Olivia Wilde, Solange Knowles and the UK’s very own Kelly Brooke have all been spotted in CC’s designs. A favourite evening dress with sleeves of mine, is the Clover Canyon Corset Print Dress. The print is very unique and I was eyeing it up in the hot weather, but it definitely works in the cold too. Everyone loves a print, and a detail in the design that I really look for is that the print continues along the sleeves. Clover Canyon has an eye for construction, it’s an element of Clover Canyon I love, and I’m sure my friends will compliment. The print really carries it as a unique piece.
The material has some stretch in it, very important for the dance floor! It’s a real bargain at £39. Pairing the dress with black heels and a chunky item of jewellery will carry the look from a dinner dress to a nightclub party dress. Rent the evening dress here, but order soon; I’ll be prepping it for a dance off with the Junifer!

For this weekend we’ve chosen three party dresses to suit any budget; they also look quite demure at a glance, but actually have  twist, whether it be cut outs, or a delicate lace.
Black party dresses are classics but who says fuschia can’t be either! The Carmen Marc Valvo Sleeved Lace Cocktail Dress will set you apart from the crowd with its luxurious lace and shocking pink party dress colour. Add minimal jewellery and hot pink lipstick for a sophisticated but modern party look.
Dark Pink is a brand we follow for its unique take on LBDs. Right on trend, the See Through Dress is a real show stopper, people will definitely comment about its distinctive sequin pattern. Mix it up with bright accessories.
The NLY Dare Dress isn’t called Dare for any reason. This short party dress is almost backless with a lace panel, and cut out lace sides. Turn heads in this illusion dress, but don’t tell anyone it’s a bargain to rent from £29!

These three red dresses have everything going for them. From £29 to £109 they are perfect for any event you have coming up. Sequins, velvet and lace, they scream texture. So go on, rent red dresses and you’ll never stop dancing the night away!
NLY Sway Dress – Sleeves, a backless draped detail and soft, luxurious velvet. What more could you ask for?! This LRD looks like any other red bodycon dress from the front, but with a twirl and a flick of your hair, a sexy drape detail reveals itself at the back. This red dress is sure to sway anyone’s opinion that you will, without a doubt, look drop dead gorgeous in it.
Honor Gold Lola Dress – The Kinks sang about Lola drinking champagne and dancing all night, and we reckon that this red dress is called Lola for that very reason; head straight for the dance floor on a night out. The three quarter length sleeves add a fun flirty element to the red dress, while the lace oozes sex appeal.
NLY Finale Dress – And for our grand final, let us introduce the Finale dress! You can’t help but shimmer in this red prom dress. The sequins catch the light and everyone’s attention. Who says you need a disco ball, this red dress will lure everyone onto the dance floor!
We can’t decide which our favourite is, so we’ll just have to leave it up to you to decide. If we’ve got you in the mood for LRDs, check out our other red dresses for more inspiration.
