Featured Blogger: Fashion Is Our Religion

aime

Amie Gee is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University studying International Fashion Marketing. She currently runs Fashion Is Our Religion which focuses on fashion trends, new collections, styling as well as beauty and events. Here Amie talks us through her top 5 cocktail dresses to hire online.

1. Alice and Olivia Nala Knit Dress – £29
This cocktail dress from Alice and Olivia is the perfect little number for the upcoming party season; it just wouldn’t be complete without glitz and glamour! I adore the shimmery pale gold sequins, which make it ideal to wear for after hours cocktail events or at Christmas parties. This cocktail dress with it’s high neck and long sleeves is understated but sexy at the same time with cut out mesh detailing on the back; a classy way of showing off some skin. Just team with simple black ankle boots and accessories for a sultry yet edgy look.

2. By Malene Birger Isalena Sequinned Dress – £59

This collection of cocktail dresses wouldn’t be complete without a little black dress or two! The first is a classic shift dress from By Malene Birger. Another sparkly number that caught my eye, but with much simpler styling with embellished sleeves and a strip of embellishment down the front; the delicate hint of sparkle just makes the dress stand out of the crowd from your standard LBDs. With full length sleeves, keyhole fastening and a mini flared hemline, this is a chic and flattering cocktail dress that will look perfect with metallic high heels and matching accessories.

3. Nicole Miller Eva Lace Dress – £49

Underwear as outerwear has been one of the biggest trends and has graced numerous catwalks this year. Nicole Miller has encapsulated this trend into one dress and I have fallen completely in love with it. This cocktail dress is adorned in beautiful black lace detailing with scalloped edges that compliments the nude fabric underneath. This cocktail dress looks like it has sauntered straight out of the boudoir and oozes sex appeal and romanticism. Pair with some sky high leather ankle boots and jacket to punk up this outfit for this season’s latest pretty/tough trend.

4. Versace Jeans Jenna Dress – £79

Versace is quintessentially known for its bold prints and extravagant embellishments, more is always more! Versace doesn’t disappoint with this stand-out LBD. The gold embellishment is reminiscent of Gatsby’s 1920’s which pairs nicely with Versace’s ethos of opulence and glamour. Wear with simple accessories and barely there heels as this cocktail dress makes the statement all by itself.

5. Diane Von Furstenberg Dress With Draping – £59

Last but not least is this sophisticated Diane Von Furstenberg dress. This is the perfect versatile piece that can be worn from day to night. With draping in all the right places this cocktail dress will skim over all your curves and makes it the ideal dress for any body shape. In a luxurious raspberry colour, this ultra feminine yet simplistic dress will be a hit at the office as well as after hours, If you have no time to head back home before an event, this is the ideal cocktail dress for you; just bring a change of dressier accessories, a statement lipstick and you are ready to go!

The week in dresses: Hunger Games special

If you haven’t heard of the Hunger Games (aka the new Twilight), where have you been?! The movie adaptation of the much-hyped book, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks, has been premiereing all over the world, giving its stars the chance to show off their fashion finery. But who worked the black and red carpet best?

A gold star has to go to Jennifer Lawrence, who showcased her style credentials in three stunning dresses. In LA, a futuristic Prabal Gurung gold lame gown ensured she outshone her co-stars, keeping it daring with a thigh high split and cut-out details. London saw Jennifer go one step further with a handmade, one of a kind Ralph Lauren crocodile skin halter-neck – it took over 800 hours to to hand bead the frock! She kept things understatedly chic in Paris with a fierce, form-fitting zip Tom Ford frock – the sexy was brought back, literally, with a completely open back. Ladies and gentleman, Jennifer Lawrence has arrived.

Zesty and packing a punch, Elizabeth Banks seemed to take her colour palette straight from the fruit bowl! She zinged in orange beaded Versace at the LA premiere – not sure about the First Lady style hair though, we think an edgier ‘do would’ve worked wonders. London was treated to a citrus yellow Bill Blass backless gown topped off with Jimmy Choos, naturally whilst in Paris, an embellished Marc Jacobs berry-toned frock wowed the crowds.

But who’s style do you like best?
