Dress of the Week

Silk Draped Column Dress by Dries Van Noten

There are many reasons why this silk draped column dress by Dries Van Noten is our Dress of the Week.  For starters, the fade-out ombré effect has become quite the subtle trend du jour.  Dip-dying, which started as a hair trend  – think Dalston’s BLEACH and Meadham Kirchhoff’s S/S11 catwalk show – has translated into catwalk looks and we love.  Plus, it’s a happy sunny colour that just makes us smile and start dreaming of our summer holidays – which, let’s face it, with this weather, is totally reasonable.

The asymmetric sleeve detail and loose, languid style is effortless – ideal for lazy summer days.  Style it up with tans and browns to keep the summery theme going – black looks too harsh in such glorious sunshine!  We recommend open-toe chunky sandals for day.  For a going out look, slip into some pointy-toe courts and grab a clutch and you’re good to go!

Silk draped column dress by Dries Van Noten is £99 for 2 nights or £109 for 7 nights.

Printed Silk Dress by Tibi

This dress is the sartorial equivalent of killing two birds with one stone.  In this little Tibi number you can tick off two trends: brights and grown-up digital flower prints.  That’s why it’s our Dress of the Week.

A whole host of designers were showcasing grown-up florals for Spring/Summer including Stella McCartney and Erdem, plus with Jil Sander doing for colour what Celine did for minimalism, you can be sure to be on trend with acid pop colours.  This dress certainly isn’t for wallflowers.  The trick to pulling it off is pairing such a vivid hue of blue with calming neutrals (handy considering camel and neutrals were so in for Autumn/Winter!)

Whether you choose biscuit, mocha or caramel, your shoes and bag will ground this look and make it totally wearable.  For instance, add this unassuming Wilbur and Gussie Harriet clutch to keep the focus on the dress.

Tibi printed silk dress is £89 for 2 nights or £99 for 7 nights.  The Wilbur and Gussie Harriet clutch bag in caramel is £39 with any dress for 2 or 7 nights.  Borrowed alone, it is £49 for 7 nights or £69 for a month.

Apricot Mini Dress by Carven

We’re coming over all festively bright now that Spring is well under way.  That’s why we’ve chosen this eye-poppingly juicy Carven Apricot Mini dress as our Dress of the Week.

We love the features on this dress; they’re all so subtle yet ingenuous – a pretty keyhole button at the back of the neck, cape-like sleeves and hidden pockets at the hips.  The slouchy style makes it perfect for dressing up or dressing down.  Plus, the clever draping will hide a multitude of sins!  We’re envisioning wearing this to the office with a little jacket and adding serious heels and sequins for cocktail hour.

Carven is quite the au courant label to know.  Although it was created way back in 1945 by French couturier Madame Carmen de Tommaso, former Givenchy designer Guillaume Henry is now Creative Director and the brand is winning over a new generation of fans.

We say pair it with some aqua blue shoes and a smile – after all, with the clocks going forward this weekend, it’s time to banish sombre hues to the back of the wardrobe!

Carven Apricot Mini dress is £99 for 2 nights of £109 for 7 nights.

Agate Dress by Jasper Garvida

This week we reckon you should make like Michelle Obama and champion an emerging designer.  As such, our Dress of the Week is this directional Jasper Garvida Agate dress.

Jasper Garvida, a graduate of the prestigious Central St. Martins BA in Womenswear, won Sky One’s Project Catwalk in 2008.  Since then he’s been a regular on the London Fashion Week schedule – and his catwalk shows are always much anticipated.  Celeb fans of the brand include Cheryl Cole, Sophie Ellis Bexter and Liz Hurley.

The stunning Agate graphic print dress, made of 100% cashmere wool and leather, is a surefire way to make a statement.  The curved and triangular panels will make a feature of womanly curves – or create them if you’re slender on the hips.  Plus the warmth of the material makes it the perfect dress for right now (SS11 may be arriving in stores now, but it sure doesn’t feel like Spring this week!)

We say – go all out with the leather and throw your favourite battered biker jacket over this dress to exude rock chic.  But if you’re more into feminine styling, dilute this dress’s avant-garde edge with flesh tone accessories and a berry-hued lip stain.  After all, what more does such a striking dress need?

The Jasper Garvida Agate Dress is £179 for 2 nights or £189 for 7 nights.
