Embargo Republica brings a slice of Cuban cool to King’s Road. Located at a prized location on Chelsea’s King’s Road, you’ll enter through a cigar shop to discover a smooth and stylish space featuring exposed brickwork, vintage furnishings and a spacious rooftop terrace.

The venue offers an exhilarating mish-mash of music, with live bands and DJs gracing the stage every week. These guys also consider luscious cocktails as something of a speciality, with no less than 20 different bottles of rum vying for position on the shelves. The choice of premium champers on offer confirms that we are definitely in Chelsea, and Embargo Republica’s blend of rhythm, colour, spirit and style ensures that Cuban values are never far from the surface.

Dining Out: Zuma

Out of simplicity can come excellence, and the food at Zuma is a case in point. The venue may be swish (with well-to-do patrons propping up the amply stocked cedar bar), the fixtures and fittings expensive, but when it comes to the food, much of the wow factor is down to high-class ingredients that haven’t been messed around with too much. Own-made silken tofu, presented in a cedar saké cup, was rich, creamy and light.

The barley miso, freshly grated wasabi and other accompaniments allowed the tofu to shine. A more indulgent dish of spicy miso with lobster also had a clarity of flavour, with the sweet shellfish the star. An ample house special of deep-fried lemon sole was served with a fresh, tangy ponzu sauce and cleverly presented in a bowl made of the curved and deep-fried skeleton of the fish. The waiting staff couldn’t  be nicer, and even the chefs behind the imposing robata grill seemed to be having a good time. Be sure to give the saké list a proper look too: there are more than 40 to choose from.

No-one does Fairy Princess better than Alice + Olivia! This cocktail dress would be perfect for almost any event, is a super flattering shape and I can’t resist a bit of sparkle.

At £1330 RRP this is a dress I will definitely not be able to afford for quite a few years (or ever), so it makes it the perfect candidate to hire out for an event. It’s another real show-stopper and would be ideal for a birthday night out or big party.

It was a toss-up between another two Alice + Olivia dresses for my fifth choice, but this one just about wins it. It’s so elegant, I’d love to wear this black cocktail dress to a classy Christmas party.
