Guest Stylist at Girl Meets Dress: Charlotte Kewley

alice

This weeks Guest Stylist pick on the@Girlmeetsdress  blog is from Charlotte Kewley, Charlotte is a freelance Stylist & Fashion Editor with over a decades worth of experience in the fashion industry. She began her career at Sugar and then More magazines where she built up her knowledge and expertise in the field of fashion and styling. She has contributing to many magazines styling both fashion and celebrity shoots; OK!, Fabulous, Stylist, Zest and Two to name a few. All her years of experience and drive have enabled Charlotte to build her client base and become the reputable stylist she is today.

Charlotte answered a few questions for us:

– How would you describe your style?

Cool, casual and fairly classic – I mix it up a bit, sometimes I go more dark and rocky and sometimes I like a pretty, more feminine look.

– What are your fashion loves, and your hates?

I love my leather jacket! I left an old treasured one in the back of a black cab and it took almost a year to find the perfect replacement (in Whistles eventually). I love it when people experiment but I hate it when people try to hard or look overdressed/slutty. I’d always rather look under than overdressed personally.

– What’s the most loved item in your wardrobe?

My leather jacket. And I just got a new Sophie Hulme bowling bag that I adore.

– What advice would you have for anyone wanting to get into styling?

Get lots of work experience with stylists and on magazines and make as many contacts as possible!

– Where do you get your inspiration from?

Everywhere. Definitely the catwalk but more and more from streetstyle pics and blogs!

– Name one item no stylist should be without?

To wear or in your stylist kit!?

To wear – the perfect pair of day boots! We’re constantly running around on appointments, on shoots and around press days so a great pair of flats or boots is a must.

In your kit – safety pins and a lint roller, ha!

– What is your favourite SS14 trend?

I love all of the pastels and I love sport luxe – the Christopher Kane Petal and Flower sweatshirts combine the two perfectly. Want!

Here are Charlotte’s picks from GirlMeetsDress.com

style pick

1-  VIONNET / Vivid Print Dress

I love this print, perfect for a party with black ankle boots or for a Spring wedding.

2- CHEAP MONDAY / Vee Dress

This could be the perfect sexy LBD!

3- BEULAH / Silver Painted Lady

Wow, this dress is just beautiful and the type of dress you really would only wear once so how great that you can hire it. I’d wear it with the simplest silver or gold heels and keep the rest of the look simple.

4- BY MALENE BIRGER / Isalena Sequined Dress

By Malene Birger dresses (and clothes) are always so flattering and chic. I love super short dresses with long sleeves. The sleeves balance out the length!

5-  DIANE VON FURSTENBERG / Belted Lupe Summer Dress

A fab holiday/summer dress. I always pack an easy, versatile floral dress in my suitcase.

Featured Blogger: Beckie Gregory Picks Her Favourite Dresses for 5 Occasions

Beckie Gregory Today our Featured Blogger is Beckie Gregory who is the founder and editor of Delightful Finds & Me, a fashion and lifestyle blog. A self-confessed “lover of all things delightful, pretty, inspiring and fabulous”, she tells us about her 5 favourite dresses for 5 different occasions: weddings, black tie events, Royal Ascot, daytime, and a 1920s party.

You can rent all of Beckie’s chosen occasion dresses at Girl Meets Dress today!

1. For a Wedding: Victoria Beckham Plumerias Print Dress

I have a wedding coming up and it is always hard deciding what to wear. I try to avoid the obvious high street choices as this is where most of the other guests will be looking and it would be embarrassing to have the same outfit as someone else! GMD is a perfect solution to this problem. I love this Victoria Beckham dress, which will be great for an early summer wedding and I have not worn anything of hers up to now, so happy to give her designs a try. – This summery Victoria Beckham dress will ensure you look suitably chic for a wedding!

2. For a Black Tie Event: Badgley Mischka Odessa Peplum Gown

I love this dress and am a massive fan of the peplum – the peplum is just so flattering. As well as looking fabulous I think it is also important to feel comfortable and I think the peplum and colour will definitely help with that. – Celebrity dress as worn by Saturday’s girlband member, Vanessa White.

3. For Royal Ascot: Opulence England Embellished Mullet Hem Dress

I am super excited for Royal Ascot in June and hope to actually see a horse this year. Usually I just stay in the champagne tent and do not really venture near the horses which is bad! For me the day is all about the outfit (and the champagne!) and this dress will be perfect with a big black hat and some killer heels. – We also love this beautifully embellished rhinestone corset!

4. For Daytime: Y.A.S Selina Dress

For a day dress I like something that is casual enough for the day but that can be easily dressed up for the evening with heels and bling! I think this dress would work perfectly for that. – Perfect for transitioning between day and night.

5. For a 1920s Party: Marta Fernandez Double Velvet Dress

I love this dress and although I happen to have a 1920’s party to go to, I think you could wear this anytime. Since the new Great Gatsby movie there has been so much 1920’s fashion around and I love it. – Be transported to the 1920s in this beautiful dress.

Jovani Blue Sequin Dress £59

I chose this cocktail dress because…how could I not?! It’s a visual definition of ‘show stopping’, and amazing value at as little as £59 to wear a £1200 dress.dolce_and_gabbana2

Dolce & Gobbana Striped Dress £109

At £109 this D&G dress is one of the more expensive dresses to hire but it is such a perfect shape and the monochrome stripes are bang on trend, so I think the right event could definitely warrant splashing out a little.

Alice_and_Olivia3

Alice + Olivia Olympia Dress £49

No-one does Fairy Princess better than Alice + Olivia! This cocktail dress would be perfect for almost any event, is a super flattering shape and I can’t resist a bit of sparkle. herve_leger4

Herve Leger V-Neck Bandage Dress £129

At £1330 RRP this is a dress I will definitely not be able to afford for quite a few years (or ever), so it makes it the perfect candidate to hire out for an event. It’s another real show-stopper and would be ideal for a birthday night out or big party.

alice_and_olivia25Alice + Olivia Chantilly Lace Peplum Dress £59

It was a toss-up between another two Alice + Olivia dresses for my fifth choice, but this one just about wins it. It’s so elegant, I’d love to wear this black cocktail dress to a classy Christmas party.

All cocktail dresses can be found here and make sure to follow Hannah’s blog here
