Featured Blogger: Allie picks her Top 5 Cocktail Party Dresses!

allieAs the new year is in full swing, parties are being planned and you need fab cocktail dresses to hire for the all year round party season. Blogger, Allie Redmond, from The Friday Girl, shares her top 5 cocktail dresses from Girl Meets Dress. –  Allie  is a fashion marketing student who loves to blog in her spare time. She is currently interning with The Image Consulting Company.

1. Diane Von Furstenberg, Zarita Lace Dress, Blue

The colour of this cocktail dress was what most attracted me to it, it’s gorgeous and would look fab with a tan. Then on closer inspection, the lace is beautiful and creates a luxurious feel and I really like the zip detailing and the deep V on the back. Understated sexiness.

2.  McQ Alexander McQueen Fine Knit Dress

I am in love with this print, the red and the black are just so striking! The shape is also one of my favourites, a good t-shirt shaped dress, whether fitted or boxy, will always be a winner in my book, they’re so flattering. The perfect cocktail party dress.

3. Stella McCartney Pleated Stretch Dress

Again I was attracted to this dress by the colour, as you can probably tell, I love a strong colour. The amazing thing about this cocktail dress is that I think it would suit any hair colour,  from brunette to golden blonde to the fieriest redhead. The fit also looks so classic and flattering and could be dressed up for a cocktail party or kept simple for a smarter work look.

4. CNC Malena Dress

When I’m not in a bright colour, I’ll be in black, grey, navy or neutrals. They’re just so versatile and this is the perfect cocktail dress to show that going for neutrals doesn’t have to mean “boring” for a night out. I love the stylish colour blocking and the shape of this dress.

5. Cheap Monday Vee Dress

Again, this dress is a gorgeous neutral black cocktail dress but is oh so sexy with the deep V. It reminds me of something that Rihanna would wear with some barely there sandals and a statement gold necklace. Brilliant for channelling your inner diva whilst sticking to the cocktail dress code.

1The Elise Ryan, Off Shoulder Lace Black Dress is simply stunning. A sophisticated parallel to Julia Roberts number in Pretty Woman, the neckline oozes class and elegance. It’s the perfect little black dress with a sexy twist; cut out at the back, wear with confidence and those heads will start turning!

2014-01-13_11452_numberI love this Gorgeous Couture Amelia Dress and it’s something you would definitely find in my own wardrobe. Oozing with simplicity and an injection of colour, the draped style flatters any figure and is also incredibly slimming.  The sleeves provide a little extra coverage but this doesn’t hinder its sexiness- don’t be afraid to show off those curves girls!

2014-01-13_11473Every girl has to have a floor length number in their wardrobe and this DARK PINK Fringe Maxi Dress is perfect. Elongating and slimming, I love how the lace doesn’t leave it all the imagination. It’s a classy way of showing off your assets and wearing with your favourite black heels and some nude accessories will make it your most show stopping number yet!

2014-01-13_11494This Cavern, Two Tone Drape Dress has to be my favourite because it’s so different and quirky. It’s vibrant, preppy and adds a modern twist to the classic cocktail dress. I love making bold statements when I’m feeling brave and this dress is perfect; wear with some simple accessories so you don’t overpower the boldness of the dress and show off those killer curves whilst brightening up any room!

celia5This TFNC Celia Dress is the definition of understated class and is so easy to wear. The shape is simple but the sequined sleeve detail makes the dress pop. The flowing material creates a relaxed feel and is perfect for on-the-go sexiness; simply slip it on with your favourite glitzy accessories and a natural curl in your hair and you’re ready to dance the night away!

 1. A navy halter neck dress from Lili London. I love this dress as its cute and sexy, the colour is fab and of course the price is just jaw dropping. It would definitely be my alternative to an LBD if I didn’t want to wear black.

2. The Folly red dress from TFNC. We all need that perfect red dress in our lives and this is it. This is sure to turn heads as its figure hugging and super sexy. This dress has left me speechless and I’m sure that you too will be leaving other speechless when you turn up in this little number.

3. A stunning maxi dress from Dark Pink. This really caught my eye as it’s simple and elegant but not in a boring way that some dresses tend to come across as, because this dress features a lace halter neck and slit on the side of the dress to add that bit of sexy back in.

4. An effortless flawless dress from Elise Ryan. The next thing that caught my eye was this red sleeveless dress as it’s absolutely gorgeous, and this colour will work so well for so many skin tones. Now we all know that every cocktail dress needs to have that pop of glam and this dress certainly ticks that box as it features a rounded neckline of decorative stones.

5. Gorgeous couture really is gorgeous (excuse the Dad joke) I had to include this Bailey dress in my top 5 as this shade of pink is to die for. It’s loved by celebrities and fashion editors, and can be loved by you too in this specific design or in the best-selling maxi dress design.

1. Alice and Olivia Nala Knit Dress – £29
This cocktail dress from Alice and Olivia is the perfect little number for the upcoming party season; it just wouldn’t be complete without glitz and glamour! I adore the shimmery pale gold sequins, which make it ideal to wear for after hours cocktail events or at Christmas parties. This cocktail dress with it’s high neck and long sleeves is understated but sexy at the same time with cut out mesh detailing on the back; a classy way of showing off some skin. Just team with simple black ankle boots and accessories for a sultry yet edgy look.

2. By Malene Birger Isalena Sequinned Dress – £59

This collection of cocktail dresses wouldn’t be complete without a little black dress or two! The first is a classic shift dress from By Malene Birger. Another sparkly number that caught my eye, but with much simpler styling with embellished sleeves and a strip of embellishment down the front; the delicate hint of sparkle just makes the dress stand out of the crowd from your standard LBDs. With full length sleeves, keyhole fastening and a mini flared hemline, this is a chic and flattering cocktail dress that will look perfect with metallic high heels and matching accessories.

3. Nicole Miller Eva Lace Dress – £49

Underwear as outerwear has been one of the biggest trends and has graced numerous catwalks this year. Nicole Miller has encapsulated this trend into one dress and I have fallen completely in love with it. This cocktail dress is adorned in beautiful black lace detailing with scalloped edges that compliments the nude fabric underneath. This cocktail dress looks like it has sauntered straight out of the boudoir and oozes sex appeal and romanticism. Pair with some sky high leather ankle boots and jacket to punk up this outfit for this season’s latest pretty/tough trend.

4. Versace Jeans Jenna Dress – £79

Versace is quintessentially known for its bold prints and extravagant embellishments, more is always more! Versace doesn’t disappoint with this stand-out LBD. The gold embellishment is reminiscent of Gatsby’s 1920’s which pairs nicely with Versace’s ethos of opulence and glamour. Wear with simple accessories and barely there heels as this cocktail dress makes the statement all by itself.
