High end designers such as Gucci, Dior and Prada set the tone for which colours are in or not? As a dress hiring company, here at Girl Meets Dress, we always buy dresses that are in season and on trend. Here are a list of some of our favourite pieces this January!
Roland Mouret – Nabis Tailored Dress
This green midi dress by Roland Mouret shows fantastic tailoring – coloured bright green with black sleeves, this V-neck silhouette is made even more sultry with a gold-tone zip that runs all the way down the back.
Self Portrait – Cheeky Sequin Mini Dress
The colour black will always be in, especially in the colder winter months, such as January. This take on the little black dress is bold, cheeky and endlessly charming by Self-Portrait Self-Portrait. The hem is slightly flared, the sleeves are bell-shaped and the white collar offers a refreshing note.
See by Chloe – Tiered Crêpe Dress
The colour burnt orange is exploding on the fashion scene right now and if you need a little cheering up from thiscold deary weather, this burnt orange dress by  See by Chloe, is the perfect midi dress. A charming option for this season. A ruffled neckline, bib, and tiered skirt give this fluid dress movement. The earthy terracotta-red hue has us in the mood for the changing months ahead.
Diane Von Furstenberg – Striped Silk Dress
A great length of dress by Diane von Furstenberg Made from silk fabric and adorned with diverse stripes. The understated collar, buttoned front and long sleeves make this an easy party dress to hire for your next event.
Alice + Olivia – Tamika Shift Dress
Â
Alice + Olivia gives the shift dress a glitzy reworking for this season. A sequinned design in electric purple perfect to rent for a smart daytime occasion. Wear with heels for the party season and show off the ladylike silhouette.

Spotlight on: Blake Lively
This was the week she wowed. The 24-year-old went from old school Hollywood to demure to honeyed beach babe in the flick of her golden mane. On the promo trail for her new movie Savages, she started the week in an absolutely jaw-droppingly, second skin sex siren worthy Zuhair Murad couture gown, ramped up with Veronica Lake curls and striking red lips. Her next appearance may have seemed much more conservative but the ivory Marchesa gown she chose for a taping of the David Letterman Show was anything but – the cape detail gives it an unexpected and hot right now edge. Note how she matched her Lorraine Schwartz jewellery to her crystal encrusted Louboutins. And she showed us all just why Gucci chose her as the face of their fragrance Premiere in a buttercup yellow custom made gown from the Italian powerhouse, topped off with turqouise drop earrings and a stack of bracelets. For this girl, it’s the details that count.

Spotlight on: Elizabeth Banks
Form fitting seems to be the buzz word for actress Elizabeth Banks this week, who’s been spotted out and about in a plethora of fun and flirty dresses. Colour is a big deal for Elizabeth and she isn’t afraid to experiment – her House of Holland zig-zag printed dress errs on the right side of the rainbow whilst her floral Jill Stuart tea dress uses contemporary colours to reinvent a classic shape. But just as we think we’ve got her signature style in hand, she surprised us all with a nude and gold embellished Elie Saab halterneck dress. Luckily one thing we can bank on with Elizabeth is that colour matching shoes; imagine her shoe closet…

Spotlight on: Emma Stone
Would her alter-ego Gwen Stacey approve? The Spiderman 4 star has been showcasing her chameleon-esque red carpet style on the promo trail for the forthcoming epic. Debuting her new blonde locks, Emma Stone has become one of the most unexpected and exciting stars to watch when it comes to fashion; she’s cute and covered up in Chanel one minute, goth in Gucci the next. But it’s her played down off-duty looks that really show her true style credentials – one look at the electric blue hue of that knotted Carven dress and you’ll be caught in her wonder web too.

The trend:Â Shoulder show-off
King Charles II would have loved the seemingly accidental, almost innocent off-the-shoulder trend, as though a dress would just fall off at the slip of a hem. Salvatore Ferragamo’s designs are poster pin-up for this trend, with Leighton Meester and Fan Bing Bing wearing his peasant inspired designs. Chloe Moretz structured MaxMara LBD is more eighties working girl, soften by ruffled lines and a girly alice band. Melanie Griffith would be proud…

Give other looks the slip and push these wide necked dresses off the shoulder…

The trend: Sheer genius
Give the illusion of nude, Rubenesque flesh with this daring favourite of the A-list brigade. Naked they are not, the intricately designed lace or embroidery covers their modesty and gives a killer finish – just look at Malin Akerman‘s stunning gilded Marchesa dress. We love how Catherine Zeta Jones looks as though she’s been caught in a web of ivy whilst Sheryl Crow does demure in navy Marchesa.
Show a little skin with these lace and sheer creations…

The trend: Gothic Girls
Style’s savviest players are shunning neons and brights, pastels and candy hues for a much darker, devilish palette. Wine red, burgundy, plum and aubergine shades rocked the palest of skintones; from Florence Welch in ruffled Gucci to Lady Gaga in futuristic David Koma (with matching shoes, clutch and sunglasses, natch). But it’s Emma Stone‘s schoolgirl-esque Rochas puffball who gets the goth award for overall cuteness.
