SS13

London Fashion Week SS13: Expect the Unexpected

It seems that Spring/Summer 2013 is the season for trying something new: designers such as Erdem and David Koma have created clothes that are a step away from the norm for next season.

At Erdem, where we are used to seeing pretty floral dresses in classic silhouettes, (which you can still find for SS13), it was a nice surprise to see that he has worked python into his newest collection. Python – merged with shades of lemon and dove grey. Sounds awful, but looks oh-so-good. At David Koma, where dresses are usually bold, fierce and perhaps a little dangerous (think oversize metal accents of seasons past), things are a lot more wearable with a collection that is distinctly sporty and luxurious.

Girl Meets Dress is the perfect forum for trying something new – you can test run a new look, without the risk of losing money spent on a new dress, which might only tickle your fancy for one season.

London Fashion Week SS13: Jonathan Saunders

Girl Meets Dress favourite Jonathan Saunders has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, but for the new season, fashion’s boy wonder has tried something new: the Jonathan Saunders girl has turned into a bit of a rebel.

Gone are the pretty prints, the neat cuts and below-the-knee hemlines. Instead, Saunders has decided that the new season calls for a darker, bad girl in the way of midriff-baring bra tops, thigh-flashing sheer skirts and figure-hugging metallic pencil skirts. His metallic striped dresses have rebellious edge, and with stripes proving to be a huge hit for SS13, be sure to show off your fashion credentials by stepping out in stripes by Jonathan Saunders next season.

London Fashion Week SS13: Ladylike Elegance

For spring / summer 2013, make like the Duchess of Cambridge – after only three days in, London Fashion week has confirmed that ladylike elegance is a must for next season.

The go-to designer for posh, proper frocks is Emilia Wickstead, where simple silhouettes were brought to life by rich colours, eye-popping prints and plunging necklines. At Vivienne Westwood Red Label, the models strutted their stuff in pretty, figure-flattering dresses which were styled with eccentric accessories, and at Nicole Farhi things were fluid, simple and chic in a neutral palette and soft fabrics.

There’s a ladylike style for everyone next season; choose from 1950s domestic goddess, Hamptons socialite or retro glamour puss. If you can’t decide, then head straight to Girl Meets Dress, where you can indulge by being all three!

London Fashion Week SS13: Pretty Pastels

London Fashion Week kicked off with a pretty start yesterday; going by Corrie Nielsen’s show, summer’s obsession with feminine pastels will continue to be a big trend for next spring. It’s always great to know that a trend will last more than one season (the mint green skater skirt that you bought in the summer sales will still work for SS13 – investment purchasing at its best!), but if you didn’t buy into the pastel trend last season just think of Girl Meets Dress as your sartorial saviour come next spring.
