Temperley London

Hire Alice by Temperley Dresses at Girl Meets Dress

Having grown up in Somerset, Alice Temperley moved to London to study at the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins before setting up her company Temperley London in 2000. She is well known for the beautiful fabrics and hand-finishes she uses in her designs. Alice Temperley has been named as ‘the designer making the biggest waves in British fashion’ by American Vogue.

Alice by Temperley dresses feature luxurious layering, rich tailoring and sexier shortened lengths, all of which give the collection increased depth for its designer positioning – covering day, cocktail and evening wear. Overall, Alice by Temperley dresses weave a little bit of romantic folklore into everyday life with an overall savvier, funkier and very wearable feel.

Celebrites wearing Alice by Temperley dresses include the Duchess of Cambridge, her sister Pippa Middleton and Nicole Scherzinger.

The Week in Dresses

By Carla Challis

The trend: Exposé
Reveal and conceal with the sexiest way to flash the flesh. We’re not talking giant cut-outs or whole areas exposed, more a carefully placed slash or accented cut-outs – Elizabeth BanksBill Blass LBD is a prime example. For those more daring, make like Kate Bosworth and show off a toned middriff, which she did in a folk-inspired Alturazza Fall 2012 folk. The less confident can take a leaf out of Zoe Saldana’s book who revealed and concealed with sheer panels on her Prabal Gurung.

Dare to bare with these hot little numbers:

The trend: Easy embellishment
An entirely embellished dress means high glamour stakes right? Wrong. Rachel Zoe, Kristen Bell and Erin Fetherstone chose relaxed, almost slouchy dresses to bring a laid back air to otherwise stuffy, super luxe sequinned gowns. A loose fitting kaftan-style dress, like Rachel Zoe‘s own designed black and silver version or opt for a t-shirt style like Kristen Bell‘s Reem Acra or opt for Erin Fetherstone’s short and flirty vest dress.

Show sequins who’s boss in these equally easy embellished choices:

The trend: True blue
Peacock, aqua, cornflower, periwinkle – everyone was feeling blue this week with every shade featured. Jessica Stam chose a sapphire blue Jason Wu to showcase her new darker locks, mixing it with black lace for a delightfully witchy vibe. In complete contrast, Heather Graham‘s custom made Nicole Miller cornflower blue gown was unashamedly girly, full of frills and ruffles and Hilary Rhoda went tri-blue with a colour blocked Rebecca Minkoff formal frock in azure, navy and sky.

Show your true colours in these blessedly blue dresses:

Long Sleeved Cocktail Dresses-Ask Anna

“My friend has organized a posh dinner in a local restaurant for her birthday and the dress-code is cocktail dresses.  I am 50 years old, a size 14 and absolutely hate my arms!  I have a very fair complexion but dark hair and eyes.  Please help! ”

So many women hate their arms so thankfully most designers take this into account.   The best part is however that long-sleeved dresses are never ‘out’ so here are some long-sleeved suggestions we think would work perfectly with your complexion…

Diane Von Furstenberg-Queen of the wrap dress and a woman’s dream for timeless classics no matter what your age, weight or if you hate your arms 😉  The trusty wrap dress will always be ‘in’ and her quirky designs will ensure you can always turn to our trusty DVF!  One of our faves is the Belia Wrap Dress.  Team it with heels or knee-high boots depending on the weather and if you feel daring add a bright coloured pair of tights as illustrated below.

Or, what about compromising with Temperley London‘s Shola Dress?  Another wrap dress, however this time with three-quarter sleeves.  With its statement brown giraffe print, dress it up with gold jewellery and some heels for an ultra glam and contemporary look.  No one will ever suspect you have any arm inhibitions!

Finally, we love our Miu Miu Silk Lily Dress.  With its fun yellow and pink print and flattering self-tie belt to cinch in your waist, this dress is perfectly pretty and easily dressed up or down.  Team with a cream or black elegant clutch and some delicate silver bangles and you’ll be the life of the party with this stunning yet simple dress.
