Tom Ford

The week in dresses: Hunger Games special

If you haven’t heard of the Hunger Games (aka the new Twilight), where have you been?! The movie adaptation of the much-hyped book, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks, has been premiereing all over the world, giving its stars the chance to show off their fashion finery. But who worked the black and red carpet best?

A gold star has to go to Jennifer Lawrence, who showcased her style credentials in three stunning dresses. In LA, a futuristic Prabal Gurung gold lame gown ensured she outshone her co-stars, keeping it daring with a thigh high split and cut-out details. London saw Jennifer go one step further with a handmade, one of a kind Ralph Lauren crocodile skin halter-neck – it took over 800 hours to to hand bead the frock! She kept things understatedly chic in Paris with a fierce, form-fitting zip Tom Ford frock – the sexy was brought back, literally, with a completely open back. Ladies and gentleman, Jennifer Lawrence has arrived.

Zesty and packing a punch, Elizabeth Banks seemed to take her colour palette straight from the fruit bowl! She zinged in orange beaded Versace at the LA premiere – not sure about the First Lady style hair though, we think an edgier ‘do would’ve worked wonders. London was treated to a citrus yellow Bill Blass backless gown topped off with Jimmy Choos, naturally whilst in Paris, an embellished Marc Jacobs berry-toned frock wowed the crowds.

But who’s style do you like best?

Athazer Dress by Tory Burch

If you’re looking to emulate that fantastic Julianne Moore in Tom Ford look from the red carpet a couple of weeks ago, we’ve got just the dress for you.  Our Dress of the Week this week is the Athazer Dress by Tory Burch, a stunning black jersey dress with panels of midnight blue sequins.  Ok, so it’s not velvet, and it’s not Tom Ford, but we think this dress is just a little bit special.

With the recent sunshine we’ve had over the past few days, there’s no better time than now to wear this dress.  Be brave and dress it down for daytime with ballet flats and tan leather accessories.  The glistening sunshine bouncing off the sequins will ensure you get noticed.  Failing that, this makes the perfect party dress for March – the sleeves and length make it demure enough for temperamental weather, while the sequins are a sure fire giveaway that you’re looking for a party!  Plus, if you’re trend-conscious, the wide stripes are more than in-keeping with the looks seen on the Prada catwalk.  A nod to Prada and Tom Ford in one dress?  We say – go forth and party!

The Tory Burch Athazer dress is £99 for 2 nights or £109 for 7 nights.
