House of Holland

London Fashion Week AW12: House of Holland

House of Holland has always been the go-to label when in need of something a bit flirty, but it seems the HoH girl is growing up; cheeky slogan t-shirts and naughty mini-kilts have given way to a more wearable collection for autumn/winter ’12 with tunics, shifts and tea dresses being the order of the day.

For next season, there is a distinct 70s vibe, although the dresses are much more demure than before (think longer sleeves, higher necklines and even some mid lengths) and anything more than two inches above the knee is often worn with a flared trouser or ankle sock, while long gloves distract from bare arms. Perhaps this new-found modesty is something to do with the designer himself (and his gaggle of famous girlfriends) nearing the grand old age of 30 – the AW12 dresses appear more grown up, and are definitely made for a different type of party than those of seasons past.

If you love House of Holland for the fun, playful reputation it has built over the last few years, fear not. The designer has included one of his most racy dresses yet: a red leather halter – albeit of knee length proportions.

London Fashion Week – Day 2: PPQ, Jaeger and House of Holland Dresses

Pastels proved popular at the SS12 shows today at London Fashion Week; candy floss shades were seen at PPQ, Jaeger and House of Holland. Thankfully, it’s a look that works for every girl. Brunettes look sophisticated in lilacs and duck egg blue, redheads smoulder in mint green and blondes are radiant in lemons and sugary pinks. What’s more is pastels suit pale, creamy skin tones as well as dark and olive skin. The key to making it work is to ensure the fit and cut suit your body shape – and good foundations (read as shapewear) go a long way to creating a smooth silhouette in potentially unforgiving pastels. All you have to do is buy the foundations and GMD will provide the dresses – it’s a spring trend that can’t go wrong!

London Fashion Week – Day 2: Printed and Floral Dresses

One of the biggest trends for SS12 is printed dresses. You might be thinking that every summer offers a printed dress, but next season is different – imagine any print you can, and you’ll find it somewhere in the collections of London Fashion Week designers. Floral? Ashish has done it with sunflowers and daisies – on the same dress. Stripes or checks? Head to Daks. Even cow prints were seen at House of Holland. How to wear them? For curvy or fuller figures, choose small prints , while larger prints work well on petite or athletic or figures. The thing to love about printed dresses is that they work for any occasion – printed wrap or shirt dresses are perfect for humid days in the office, while a silk printed maxi dress will take you seamlessly from day to night. Daks has done a navy and white stripe halter neck which is just the ticket for a week in the sun.

Hey Foxy Lady! If it’s Affordable Designer Cocktail Dresses You’re After….

For all you ‘foxy’ ladies out there, have we got dress news for you! New in this week to GMD, are these House of Holland short cocktail dresses. We’re in love with the denim cut-out shapes of this lace and denim dress.  The strategically placed denim patches give the dress a fabulously updated edge.  What’s more, at £59 instead of the RRP of £365, it’s probably one of the most affordable designer cocktail dresses you could ever hope to wear!

You might want to go for a more subtle ‘flash of flesh’ with the one shoulder lace cocktail dress. Priced at £215 normally, to rent, it’s a reasonable £59.

The Short Cocktail Dresses-Top of Our Lust List

We are experiencing serious dress-lust at the sight of this short sleeved lace cocktail dress, again, part of the short cocktail dresses collection available to hire. With mid-length sleeves and an outer lace hemline falling just below the accompanying slip, this dress is the textbook way to do demure dressing, whether for evening or daytime. And we love it even more, because of its rental price tag of just £59! (Its RRP is normally £215).

We just don’t know why we don’t have more parties to go to! We’ve certainly got our dresses sorted!
