What to wear to a Roaring 20s party

If you are going to attend a 1920s Roaring Twenties Gatsby themed event a vintage 2os dress is what you need! In fact, 1920s fashion for women was all about getting loose wearing dresses every day.

In the following lines we are giving you some roaring twenties ideas to learn more about what to wear for this occasion.

Day dresses in the 1920s had a drop waist usually adorned with a belt or a sash around the low waist and a straight, pleated skirt from ankle on up to the knee. Ladies use to wear long sleeves or midi-biceps accessorized with long strings of pearls. Other important elements we cloche hats to show of their short hairstyles, or they’d wear a headband. seamed stockings, a purse and gloves. Day time shoes were 1-2.5 inch with single or double straps.

For party attire dresses and accessories that would help to show their dancing movements were fundamental. For instance  dresses with tassels and frills that would flare out dancing on the dance floor.

Men typically still dressed very respectably even if they weren’t going to a formal event. Unless they were playing a sport or doing something particularly athletic, men typically wore suspenders, slacks, and a simple white button-down. Vests and bowties were also a nice way to keep a simple outfit looking classy.

For parties and events their suits became louder and solid-colored in with red or pink ties.

For headgear, men usually wore fedoras or cabbie caps that matched with their suits, while footwear was usually a simple dress shoe.

BBC Proms: what to wear

BBC Proms is happening and we’d like to share with you some clarifications and style tips for the event.

Despite no formal dress code is required, people use to attend wearing a smart casual attire. In fact, in this occasion, wearing a comfortable outfit will help you enjoy the night. However, comfortable doesn’t mean choosing loose, relaxed garments. In order to combine confidence and style you should pick tailored items, ensuring a perfect fit for adding value to your body shape.

At any outdoor events a great way to deal with the temperature wearing a blazer, a shawl or a long sleeves garment. In this way you will have a smart but not too formal look.

For your shoes choice loafers, suede brogues and boat shoes are a good option for the smart casual theme. However, heels always fit well if you wear trousers or a really casual outfit.

Don’t forget to accesorise your outfit with little details that match with the shoe or the clothes colour.

And if you happen to be attending the prestigious Last Night of the Proms, then go formal. A smartly tailored tuxedo will give you all the Pomp and Circumstance you need for the occasion!

Hirestreet: Renting an outfit is the height of fashion

On Saturday we were reading the weeekend papers and were happy to see a Girl Meets Dress mention in the Times by writer Elizabeth Burden…

“The white-tie balls at Oxford University are famous for their excess: students who have worked hard for the exams let their hair down, quaff champagne and dance until dawn.

It was among such glamorous crowds that Isabella West was struck by an idea for a fashion businessMs West, 26, started Hirestreet, a dress lending service, after having to swap ball gowns with friends before stylish events at Lady Margaret Hall college. “There were ten dresses among our friends but they always ended up on a different girl,†she said. “One dress worked for ten events.â€Â The business that she set up last year allows customers to rent an outfit for between 4 and 16 days, at a fifth of the cost of buying it…”
