Long Sleeved Cocktail Dresses-Ask Anna

“My friend has organized a posh dinner in a local restaurant for her birthday and the dress-code is cocktail dresses.  I am 50 years old, a size 14 and absolutely hate my arms!  I have a very fair complexion but dark hair and eyes.  Please help! ”

So many women hate their arms so thankfully most designers take this into account.   The best part is however that long-sleeved dresses are never ‘out’ so here are some long-sleeved suggestions we think would work perfectly with your complexion…

Diane Von Furstenberg-Queen of the wrap dress and a woman’s dream for timeless classics no matter what your age, weight or if you hate your arms 😉  The trusty wrap dress will always be ‘in’ and her quirky designs will ensure you can always turn to our trusty DVF!  One of our faves is the Belia Wrap Dress.  Team it with heels or knee-high boots depending on the weather and if you feel daring add a bright coloured pair of tights as illustrated below.

Or, what about compromising with Temperley London‘s Shola Dress?  Another wrap dress, however this time with three-quarter sleeves.  With its statement brown giraffe print, dress it up with gold jewellery and some heels for an ultra glam and contemporary look.  No one will ever suspect you have any arm inhibitions!

Finally, we love our Miu Miu Silk Lily Dress.  With its fun yellow and pink print and flattering self-tie belt to cinch in your waist, this dress is perfectly pretty and easily dressed up or down.  Team with a cream or black elegant clutch and some delicate silver bangles and you’ll be the life of the party with this stunning yet simple dress.

Rent Dina Bar-El for a Show-Stopping Designer Dress

German born Dina, moved to the United States at the age of 18 where she has built her gorgeous collection of ball gowns and cocktail dresses and generated a huge following of fans and celebrities.  Based in California, the dresses are entirely made in the United States and designed to flatter and accentuate a woman’s curves.  As described by Dina, Plunging necklines, flouncy fishtails, two-tone gowns and asymmetrical drapes have ensured her dresses remain in the limelight.

Her collections reached an all time high when Kate Hudson wore her yellow, back-less gown in the film ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’.   Romantic, elegant and sophisticated she mixes the classic with a contemporary twist like nobody else.  Her dresses are on-trend yet maintain a high level of quality for an extremely reasonable price.  Inspired by her late daughter Orna, Dina’s collections are made with love and with a special appreciation for glamour and femininity.   Her collections are now sold worldwide.

Hire one of Dina’s gorgeous gowns from Girl Meets Dress today!  Here are some of our favourites…

The Louise Dress  is a statement, black-tie gown covered in lace with a fitted bodice and fish-tail skirt.  This elegant and highly glamorous dress is the perfect choice for a romantic, black-tie occassion.  Ensure you stand out from the crowd with a look that exudes old Hollywood glamour.

The Penelope Dress is fitted with a plunging neckline and fitted ruched bodice.  In plum with a corsage embellishment, this is another extremely romantic and elegant Dina Bar-El gown.  With its satin-chiffon draped skirt, team with strappy silver heels, a metallic clutch and long, delicate necklace to complete the look.

Finally, we have the Anastasia Gown, an asymmetrical dress with crystal embellishment on the shoulder.  In cream, silk-chiffon, the ruched bodice completes this evening gown with a high luxury look.  Keep the dress simple with matching silver accessories and strappy heels.

The Perfect Birthday Dress-Ask Anna

“My birthday is coming up and I am having a party where both family and friends will be attending.  I’ll be turning 18 so will need a dress that will wow my friends but won’t shock my family.  I am on a budget so please only suggest dresses under £100.â€

For such a special occasion such as your birthday we can understand your desire to have a show-stopping dress yet one that won’t make family members (particularly grandparents) want to cover you up in a coat as soon as you arrive!  A special dress that will stand out for all the right reasons is what you’ll need to create the desired look that will impress all of your attendees, whatever their age…

Our Marc Jacobs Rainbow Paillette dress is the ultimate in glam and was even worn by Fergie at the Teen Choice awards.  On its own, the black bustier may be a little too ‘little’ for the grandparents however, with its sheer black tulle overlay and beautiful detailing consisting of horizontal rainbow sequinned stripes it’s the perfect party dress.  Team with a colourful chunky necklace and sky-high heels as illustrated below.

Another great choice is our Winona Dress by Amee Lou.  In gorgeous plum, this asymmetric frock screams luxury couture with its layered taffeta-chiffon.  Accessorize with long earrings and a metallic clutch and you’ll be head to toe glam!

Finally, our Alice and Olivia Salmon Sequinned Dress will ensure the limelight is all yours.  Particularly girly, make this ballerina-esque with your hair wrapped up into a bun and show-stopping silver platforms .
