Rent Proenza Schouler for Structured Elegance

Before they had even finished university, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were the talk of New York City and rapidly becoming the talk of the fashion industry.  Attending Parsons School of Design and having been apprentices of Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs, McCollough and Hernandez struck up a friendship that was rapidly going to make them a dream team in American fashion.  With skills and ideas way beyond their years, the pair’s senior thesis was bought by Barneys New York as their first collection with many other retailers vying for pieces.

Having labeled their brand after their mothers’ maiden names, the designs from Proenza Schouler continue to awe and inspire the fashion industry and its followers all over the world since it was founded in 2002. Their latest Spring/Summer 2012 collection was filled with forties designs that included structured button up short and jacket combinations and A-line skirts.

At Girl Meets Dress we are so pleased to have some of their famous designs available for our faithful followers to hire.  The Summer Belted Dress in a beautiful purple silk is simple and elegant with a frilled, layered detailing on the skirt.  With a contrasting black belt it cinches in the waist for a fun and flattering party dress.

Proenza Schouler‘s Reptile Print Dress is a gorgeous shift with a yellow, iris blue and navy reptile print.  Its bold colours and draped back detailing make it a bold and elegant choice for a wedding or dinner party.  Team with solid black or nude heels and chunky gold jewellery.

Finally, we have the Metallic Jacquard Dress in black and gold.  Its gold print with slimming black side panels make this dress a perfect choice for the winter season.  Team with black tights, black heels and big gold earrings.

Rent Dina Bar-El for a Show-Stopping Designer Dress

German born Dina, moved to the United States at the age of 18 where she has built her gorgeous collection of ball gowns and cocktail dresses and generated a huge following of fans and celebrities.  Based in California, the dresses are entirely made in the United States and designed to flatter and accentuate a woman’s curves.  As described by Dina, Plunging necklines, flouncy fishtails, two-tone gowns and asymmetrical drapes have ensured her dresses remain in the limelight.

Her collections reached an all time high when Kate Hudson wore her yellow, back-less gown in the film ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’.   Romantic, elegant and sophisticated she mixes the classic with a contemporary twist like nobody else.  Her dresses are on-trend yet maintain a high level of quality for an extremely reasonable price.  Inspired by her late daughter Orna, Dina’s collections are made with love and with a special appreciation for glamour and femininity.   Her collections are now sold worldwide.

Hire one of Dina’s gorgeous gowns from Girl Meets Dress today!  Here are some of our favourites…

The Louise Dress  is a statement, black-tie gown covered in lace with a fitted bodice and fish-tail skirt.  This elegant and highly glamorous dress is the perfect choice for a romantic, black-tie occassion.  Ensure you stand out from the crowd with a look that exudes old Hollywood glamour.

The Penelope Dress is fitted with a plunging neckline and fitted ruched bodice.  In plum with a corsage embellishment, this is another extremely romantic and elegant Dina Bar-El gown.  With its satin-chiffon draped skirt, team with strappy silver heels, a metallic clutch and long, delicate necklace to complete the look.

The Perfect Birthday Dress-Ask Anna

“My birthday is coming up and I am having a party where both family and friends will be attending.  I’ll be turning 18 so will need a dress that will wow my friends but won’t shock my family.  I am on a budget so please only suggest dresses under £100.”

For such a special occasion such as your birthday we can understand your desire to have a show-stopping dress yet one that won’t make family members (particularly grandparents) want to cover you up in a coat as soon as you arrive!  A special dress that will stand out for all the right reasons is what you’ll need to create the desired look that will impress all of your attendees, whatever their age…

Our Marc Jacobs Rainbow Paillette dress is the ultimate in glam and was even worn by Fergie at the Teen Choice awards.  On its own, the black bustier may be a little too ‘little’ for the grandparents however, with its sheer black tulle overlay and beautiful detailing consisting of horizontal rainbow sequinned stripes it’s the perfect party dress.  Team with a colourful chunky necklace and sky-high heels as illustrated below.

Another great choice is our Winona Dress by Amee Lou.  In gorgeous plum, this asymmetric frock screams luxury couture with its layered taffeta-chiffon.  Accessorize with long earrings and a metallic clutch and you’ll be head to toe glam!

Finally, our Alice and Olivia Salmon Sequinned Dress will ensure the limelight is all yours.  Particularly girly, make this ballerina-esque with your hair wrapped up into a bun and show-stopping silver platforms .

London Fashion Week – Day 4: Giles Deacon Dresses

Giles Deacon has a wonderfully creative mind, which is evident once again in his SS12 collection, shown last night at LFW. The dresses from his collection are suitable for a modern day fairytale, to be worn by a princess who walks in glass slippers with a constant silver shimmer around her. The dresses come in a spellbinding array of light, soft colours including dove grey, rose pink, nude, latte and lilac (and even sparkling gunmetal), magically finished with brocade, ruffles or feathers. An enchanting collection that will look as good in high fashion editorials as it will on the red carpet – or indeed, in your wardrobe.
