Last night were the 90th Academy Awards, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Dolby Theatre in LA. It was attended by A-list celebrities from all around the world. Last night was one of the biggest nights of the year in the music industry, as Jack Whitehall hosted the BRIT Awards 2018, as the O2 arena in London. Singers and celebrities from around the globe attended the ceremony, such as Havana singer Camila Cabello. In support of the #MeToo movement, a lot of celebrities were seen holding a white rose, to illustrate their support for the movement of solidarity. As you may have guessed from our social media posts, the Girl Meets Dress buyers and social media team have been very busy with London Fashion Week (LFW), running around London to get to all the shows, to seek out what’s going to be on trend for AW18 and we’ve already placed orders on dresses for you to hire that we think will be popular for the coming season. At the Richard Quinn show yesterday, we were graced not just by the likes of Anna Wintour aka fashion royalty, but Her Majesty The Queen made an unprecedented appearance. All of the Girl Meets Dress team, were major fangirling, but obviously we still kept our focus on the dresses. Of course she was in the front row and she awarded Quinn with the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. This is the first time the Queen has graced her presence at LFW.

The BAFTA’s were celebrated last night at the Royal Albert Hall and attended by everyone from A listers to Royalty. In support of the TimesUp movement, the guests of the awards were kindly asked to adhere to wearing black dresses, to stand up for solidarity and to illustrate the Hollywood is ready to change the status quo, in light of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. While most of the guests did stick to the black attire dress code and looked fabulous, some did not. Here at the Girl Meets Dress HQ, we cannot stop discussing who wore the best black dresses from the bunch.
The Duchess of Cambridge looks fabulous in this empire style green dress by Jenny Peckham. Many have criticised Kate for not adhering to the TimesUp movement, but the Royals have a strict protocol in not involving themselves in anything that could be interpreted as political. Some onlookers have suggested that her black belt and black bag are subtle gestures in support of the movement. Overall the Duchess of Cambridge looked amazing in her green floor length gown.Â
