Dress of the Week

Alp Pocket Dress by Acne

How can you resist a spot of Acne for a sunny day in the city?  That’s why this military green dress with ‘alp pockets’ by Acne is our Dress of the Week.

What we love about this Acne dress in particular is that, with those fab pockets and the exposed zip up the back, you don’t really need to over-accessorize.  In fact, too many accessories would make this look too busy.  As such it’s a great statement dress to wear out and about over the weekends or, if you work in a creative environment, even to the office.

For work, how about pairing with a louche blazer in navy and some leather peep-toe wedges?  For the evening, simply add a pair of pretty drop earrings and 60’s-style eyeliner.

To stand out at cocktail hour we recommend picking up this quirky but simple clutch bag from Shana London, whose jewel-like collections of bags have been an international hit since the brand’s inception in 2004.

The silver keeps the whole look tonal with the khaki and grey of the dress but adds a flash of understated glitz.

The Acne Alp Pocket dress is £79 for 2 nights or £89 for 7 nights and the Shana London Round Lizard clutch in silver is £29 when borrowed with any dress for 2/7 nights, £39 for 7 nights if borrowed alone or £49 for a whole month. But if you really love it why not buy it brand new for £398?

Cashmere Bustier Dress by Richard Nicoll

Who other than Richard Nicoll could take such a wintry fabric as cashmere and spin it into the most covetable Spring dress?  In homage to him, this Cashmere Bustier dress is our Dress of the Week.

We reckon this dress could take you anywhere this Spring bank holiday.  The gingham skirt is so evocative of Spring-time and Easter and we reckon with a pair of chunky wooden platforms you wouldn’t need much else to bring this dress to life!  (Maybe a fuchsia pout?)  Wear it – with said platforms – to picnics, on shopping sprees with girlfriends and to lunch.  While we daren’t be so pessimistic as to even think it, should the weather make a turn for the worse, simply slip on a faded denim jacket for a look of girlish insouciance – so Alexa Chung!

Or how about dressing it up for evening?  Simply swap the sandals for some uber sexy pointed courts and add a shot of pillar box red – whether that be in the form of a clutch bag or matte Revlon lipstick.  Then, may we suggest, you grab some friends and make the most of the four day weekend!

The Cashmere Bustier Dress by Richard Nicoll is £89 for 2 nights or £99 for 7 nights.

The Libelula Dresses Collection – The Poppy Dress

This week’s Dress of the Week has to be this divine Poppy Dress from label of the moment Libelula. Currently sold out on the Libelula dresses official website, why not hire this beautiful long bias cut silk evening dress directly from our on-line designer dress hire website?  The dress is 100% silk, with an elegant handpainted purple floral print.

Libelula dresses- Hire

Libelula dresses normally retail at around £300 – 400; this Libelula dress (were it not sold out ) would come with an RRP of £399.99.  Instead, you can hire the Libelula Poppy Dress for just £109 for two nights hire, or £119 for seven nights.   The fuschia version of this Libelula dress is also available for hire.

Lilebula dresses – Fit for Royalty?

Earlier this week we also featured the Lilebula ‘Sarah’ dress, following rumours Kate Middleton’s wedding dress would be designed by the label’s founder, Sophie Cranston.  It is speculated that Kate Middleton had contracted the services of the bespoke wedding dresses designer, having already been seen in a coat by the designer last year.

Lilebula wedding dresses are made as part of the bespoke bridal service offered at the Chelsea-based boutique.  But for those of you who aren’t due to marry your prince just yet, why not make like Kate in (perhaps) at least one way, and opt for a Lilebula dress for your next event?

Floral Print Cotton Dress by Marni

Right now we’re coming over all lady-like and crushing on this fabulous 50’s style Marni floral print cotton dress.  It’s our Dress of the Week.

This summer dress with its v-neckline and full skirt is reminiscent of holidays in the Hamptons and chic city breaks.  In fact, with the number of bank holidays over Easter (two four-day weekends in a row?  Thank you Kate and Will!), we expect everyone’s taking advantage and planning a getaway.  So why not pack this dress?  We reckon it would work best against a backdrop of the French Riviera or the Alhambra palace in Granada, but sling on a biker jacket and it’s California cool.  For a classic Grace Kelly look, pair with dainty kitten-heeled sandals and a matching leather bag.  If you’re not jetting off anywhere, don’t worry, you can still work it.  Pop on some ankle socks and brogues and suddenly this dress is quirky London cool.

The Marni floral print cotton dress is £149 for 2 nights or £159 for 7 nights.
