“Guests can expect to pay £391 to attend a wedding in 2019, up almost a third from last year, according to American Express. Hotels, clothes, gifts and travel can soon add up when sharing someone’s special day. Here are some ways to reduce the cost.

Buy your outfit in the summer sales. If you sign up to Top Cashback, a money-saving website, you can also claim £15 back from websites such as Reiss, Monsoon, Asos and Next. For suit hire, Formally Yours is one of the cheapest options — £53 covers a jacket, trousers, shirt, waistcoat, and a cravat or tie. You can rent a designer dress from the website Girl Meets Dress. Returns are pre-paid and you are refunded for unworn items; a dress by Stella McCarttney worth £600 costs £49 to rent.

If you have a penchant for photography , flower arranging r baking, consider offering your time as a wedding present rather than splurging on a gift.

Websites such as Not On the High Street , Etsy  and Groupon are good for personalised  gifts. On the high street H&M Home has a premium linen dressing gown, from £34.99, which can be personalised for £2.99.

Look for bonuses when you shopping for gifts. For example, John Lewis has Bosch Vitaboots blender is £299.99 that comes with a hamper worth £70”.
