Prom Dress Hire – Prom Dresses’ Changing Faces in History

Prom dresses were not always as fancy as they are now. Prom dresses, let alone designer prom dresses were almost unheard of in 1900s America (the beginning of the high school prom), where people would wear their Sunday best and would not dream of embarking down the route of prom dress hire.   But then there was no need to hire prom dresses, as proms in those days were modest occasions where tea and polite socializing were the order of the day.

Prom Dresses – Before the Advent of Fancy Prom Dresses / Hire

In the ’40s and ’50s proms became much more lavish, and girls turned to buying prom dresses or to prom dress hire.  (Despite this, they still probably weren’t designer prom dresses.) High school proms became the coming-of-age event in high school students’ lives.

With the advent of the 1980s, popular culture’s portrayal of the prom had allowed for the prom to acquire almost mythical status in terms of its importance. Achieving perfection in the form of their prom dress would make or break a girl’s life. Prom dress choices became even more fancy; more girls would opt to either hire prom dresses out of their price range, (or buy them if they were lucky enough to afford it), and some would even make their own.

Designer Prom Dress Hire – Not a ’90s Invention

As in the rules layed out by ’90s movies, certain stereotypes would end up wearing a certain type of prom dress. Thus, the most popular girls at school, would don their designer prom dresses, while the ‘kooks’ and the ‘quirks’ would spend hours making their own.  And then there’d be the those who were told by their less-well off parents they’d have to go for prom dress hire.

‘Prom’ didn’t come to Britain until much later.  Although balls have been going on for centuries, the term ‘prom’ appeared in secondary schools in the 1990s.  Prom dresses however, have long been a popular style of dress.

Prom Dress Hire – A Thing of the Present

Nowadays, when it comes to hire, prom dresses are in high demand, especially for Leavers’ Balls or Leavers’ Dos.   Prom dress hire is not limited to school leavers, but designer prom dresses online at www.girlmeetsdress.com are hired out for all kinds of events, from weddings to black tie dos.  Designer prom dresses online and prom dress hire online is a service growing in popularity.   And how things have changed looking back on the history of the prom, dress hire and the changing attitudes toward it.

Designer Prom Dresses – Hire Prom Dresses

Prom has come to mean multiple things, not just some cheesy high-school ending, just as prom dress hire is something that all people are doing these days. Prom dress hire is no longer just for proms but for all kinds of events, especially if people are looking to hire designer prom dresses. Dress for Success: Tips on how to dress for your Christmas Office Party

The holiday season is finally here, and with it looms the end of year office party. This is usually the perfect chance to get to know your colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere – but it also presents an opportunity for you to rub shoulders with the right people and to do some social networking. It is therefore important to strike the perfect balance between relaxed and sophisticated – with a little bit of sexy in case the cute guy from accounts asks you for a dance! Lucky for you, Girl Meets Dress has various choices which tick all these boxes.

Our first choice is the Fendi Silk Belted Cap Sleeved Dress. This number is the perfect mixture of demure and sensual, resulting in an effect which is professionally feminine. The material falls in such a way to create a smooth texture, with the belt accentuating your waist. Pair with your favourite necklace – try to keep the look as classic as possible with a string of pearls, or freshen it with a splash of bling. Finish the look off with a pair of peep-toe ankle boots.

Our next choice is the Miu Miu Satin Trim Dress. This dress is an advocate for the saying that “Simple is Sexy”! Try not to over-accessorise with jewellery – a pair of gold earrings and matching bracelets will give this outfit the perfect amount of sparkle – leaving the neck free and au natural. Keep in mind that while you should have fun with your accessories, you should keep a sophisticated edge. Wear with a pair of high-heeled ankle strap shoes, and don’t forget your red lipstick!

Our final choice is the Beyond Vintage Embroidered Batwing Dress. This dress is elegant with a bohemian flair. It is particularly well suited for top-heavy body types, as it is loose fitting above the waist and accentuates your bottom half. Due to the intense embroidery detail at the top, it is again unnecessary to go overboard with accessories. A simple pair of earrings with an equally simple necklace will do the trick. With a simple pair of dark shoes, this dress will work wonders!

Just one final tip: dress weather appropriately. You don’t want to be excluded from the VIP chats happening outside on smoke breaks just because you didn’t bring a warm enough coat!

Finally, Good Luck! You’ll look fabulous!

‘Unique’ party dresses top priority for wedding guests in poll

The results are in and it seems that standing out from the crowd is the main priority for Girl Meets Dress fans when choosing a formal dress for a wedding.

We asked you the question: “Which three are most important to you when dressing for a wedding?â€

‘Looking unique’ came out on top, with 35.4% of the votes. It’s every woman’s worst nightmare – you arrive at the wedding, all glammed up feeling fabulous, only to find that someone else is wearing the exact same dress – oh the shame! Renting a unique designer dress, instead of buying a mass-produced high street replica, can help avoid any potential cringe-factor.

In the poll results, ‘uniqueness’ was closely followed by the need for your party dress to be suitable for both day and night, scooping 27.5% of the votes. Budget was the next important consideration with 15.7%, followed by wearing designer (11.8%) and seeking style advice (9.6%).

We’re just wondering whether anyone showed up at Robbie Williams and Ayda Field’s big day dressed the same? One thing’s for sure – it was definitely a unique, unconventional affair with reports indicating that they had dogs as bridesmaids, fry-ups at 1am and guests being made to believe they were attending a James Bond themed party until just moments before the ceremony began! Only Robbie.

Girl Meets Dress is perfect for weddings and avoids that awkward same dress scenario – rent a fabulous wedding guest dress for a fraction of the price, but for maximum individuality.

Perfect party dresses to keep that summer feeling alive

As Britain begins to feel a slight chill, it can be difficult to decide what to wear on your special night out, and summer holiday cocktail dresses just don’t seem right now that autumn is drawing near.

At the same time, after you’ve spent two weeks baking yourself in the sun, it would be a shame to hide those perfectly tanned legs under a pair of tights or leggings.

Our advice would be to choose a party dress that’s not too bright or summery and still short and sparkly enough to keep that fabulous summer feeling alive. Afterall, we don’t want to head into depressing winter mode just yet do we?

Take a look at this perfect silk designer dress by JOSEPH. This black paillette mini dress gives you a classic silhouette by combining soft drapes with a dual deep v-neckline and back. A gorgeous LBD – and yours to rent from just £89.
